Letter's of a Knight to be
Alright peasants, I'm Darren Radner. I'm not exactly sure how to use this thing, looks like magic to me. But Shiel said it wasn't, so make my time here worth it.

"Yes! I really do like you, Eunice. Which is odd because usually I don’t like anyone." Darren followed her, not really thinking much about what he was saying now. Hopefully he didn’t insult her, or hurt her feelings without meaning to.

"If things were..different, I would most likely court you. But I have a father who really likes to yell at me."

C-court me?

Poor Eunice’s face was as red as a tomato. “I-it’s a s-shame t-then…t-that we b-basically c-come from d-different w-worlds…” She paused at a door and opened it with one hand, holding some towels in the other.

"B-because…I l-like y-you, t-too. …a-a lot." She was thankful no one else was out in the halls. If anyone heard her, she might have been scolded for her words.

Darren handed her towels, not sure how to respond to that. He didn’t want to avoid her, or stop being near her. Ugh, why was everything difficult? Darren finished helping her, and then he reached over and took her hand, just to get her attention.

"It is a shame. But there’s no reason why we can’t still be around one another. I hope you’ll forgive me for being somewhat forward with you. I’m not good with words, and if I had to explain this to someone I’d probably freak out."

Darren helped her carry the towels, letting the small blonde girl lead the way. “I…I realize my actions the other day were…inappropriate. I should not have made such comments to you, and I’m sorry if you felt uncomfortable.”

He didn’t regret it, per se…he just didn’t want her to start avoiding him. “I’m not going to take what I said back, though. You’re a wonderful woman.”

Eunice continued walking, “N-no! I-I don’t t-think th-they were i-inappropriate!” She could feel her cheeks growing hot. “I-I’m s-sorry f-for…b-being a-awkward…”

She sucked in a deep breath. “T-thank y-you. Y-you…r-really m-mean that, t-though?”

Darren was sitting by a window, looking out onto the training field where all the other(annoying) squires were. He was supposed to be down there with them, but there was no way he wanted to go down there.

He knew his dad was around the training area looking for him, and his father was one person he wanted to avoid. He turn, when he heard footsteps, and saw Eunice, heading down the hall carrying towels.

Darren stared for a minute, thinking about turning and ignoring her, but he didn’t have the heart. So he stood up and went to her, “Need a hand?”

"O-oh—!"

Eunice flinched, hearing the squire’s voice. “Um…” She glanced toward Darren and bit her lip. “Y-yes. I-I mean…i-if y-you don’t m-mind…”

Darren helped her carry the towels, letting the small blonde girl lead the way. “I…I realize my actions the other day were…inappropriate. I should not have made such comments to you, and I’m sorry if you felt uncomfortable.”

Darren was sitting around, thinking. Just thinking. He’d made a complete fool of himself yesterday, with Eunice.

If his father knew he’d been…well, flirting, with a servant girl, he’d be furious. Lord and Knights to be, never ran around with those of ‘lesser blood’. Yet Darren couldn’t get Eunice out of his head.

Eunice was finishing up with what she had to do(mostly folding blankets), and was heading down the hallway. She had been thinking about a certain squire for most of the day.

She knew it wasn’t right. She was a servant and he was a noble, and a knight-to-be.

Darren gasped as she tipped and fell right off the horse. He hurriedly got off his Pinto and went to her. She was laying on her back on the ground.

"Are you alright!? Here." He helped her up, more concerned with if she was okay then the fact that she just fell off the horse, which would be funny if it were anyone else who fell off it.

"M-maybe we shouldn’t ride, since you just got hurt.." He should probably just take her back to the castle so she can recover…

Eunice quickly grabbed Darren’s hand and staggered to her feet. She let go of his hand and brushed herself off, blushing furiously. “N-no! I-I still w-want t-to r-ride! I-I’m fine, D-Darren. R-really!”

She bit her lip, “I-I was j-just c-caught off g-guard…w-with y-you telling m-me that I-I’m b-beautiful…”

Darren was silent for a minute, not sure what exactly he felt towards her.

Or what exactly he should do. Darren quietly helped her back onto the horse, thinking about what he should say to her.

"…I’m sorry if I startled you with what I said..you are very pretty."

Oh..well that wasn’t bad at all.

Darren promptly turned as red as a tomato, and silently stared at her. Good lord, how was he supposed to respond to that?! He’d never been complimented like that before.

Was there some kind of etiquette he had to follow?

Darren, being the awkward teenage boy he was, just blurted out the first words in his head. “You’re beautiful.”

That didn’t help anything!

Eunice’s eyes widened at the compliment. She hadn’t ever been called beautiful before. Or pretty. Her face flushed as she opened her mouth to speak again, but…nothing came out.

OH…o-oh no. Her grip on the reins loosened. Perhaps a bit too much. And then…she slipped…and fell right off the horse. She landed roughly on her back and winced, her face still a deep shade of red.

"O-ow…"

Darren gasped as she tipped and fell right off the horse. He hurriedly got off his Pinto and went to her. She was laying on her back on the ground.

Crap.

She stopped talking and his mind just jumped to the worst things that could ever come out of her mouth.

"Yeeessss.." He said slowly. "I’m kind to you. Should I not be nice?" Well, shit. He didn’t want to be mean to her, he rather liked her. She was nice to him, and easy to talk to. He had such a hard time talking to people, all people, that he liked having people easy to talk to around him.

"I’m what?"

image

"H-handsome."

There…she let it out.

"I-I think y-you’re rather d-dashing. C-charming and p-polite…and h-handsome." Eunice wanted to cover her face with her hands, but seeing that she was holding onto the reins…decided against it. That’d be a bad idea.

"I-I s-should s-stop t-talking…I-I-I’m s-sorry…"

"Well your stutter doesn’t make you a freak of nature, now does it? I’m sure there are plenty of people in this world who have an uncontrollable stutter like you do. That doesn’t make you, or them any different from someone like me."

Darren was getting angry just thinking about someone mistreating her. Ugh, he hated being angry.

"I don’t mind you stutter, in fact it’s kind of cute. There’s no reason for you to ever think badly of yourself. You’re a wonderful woman, and you shouldn’t let anyone tell you that you’re anything less."

image

Eunice caught herself blushing. Her entire face became a deep and dark shade of red. Cute. Wonderful. She just wasn’t used to hearing these things from anyone, much less a noble.

"Y-you’re r-really nice t-to m-me, D-Darren. I-I just…I-I’ve always t-thought n-negatively about m-myself…" She sucked in a deep breath. "I-I think y-you’re—" No. Nope. She should stop talking before she embarrasses herself…

Crap.
